MERRY (and white!) CHRISTMAS from the BMG
Father Christmas takes a break from Guiding
It looks like it will be a white Christmas throughout our mountains this year
With Christmas just around the corner, the UK and the Alps are swathed in snow!
The mountains of Scotland, the Lakes and North Wales are all enjoying some tremendous conditions for winter climbing right now. Meanwhile, in the Alps, there is plenty of great skiing and cold weather is bringing the ice into condition. For skiing, once again, the start of the season has been a huge success further East, with this season following the same pattern as in previous years.
Martin Chester (BMG publicity Officer, and chief instructor of Plas y Brenin (national mountain centre) has just been running the annual PyB ‘staff training’ trip in Obergurgl, Austria. He reports:
“Whilst there may not have been a huge volume of fresh snow in the build up to Christmas the super cold temperatures have kept the snow light and dry; and the lack of any crowds in the resorts meant that we were able to ski fresh tracks up to a week after the last snow. Thankfully, there is plenty more on the way now and it looks like it will be another great year!”
Similar reports are flooding in from British Guides throughout the mountains of the world - so it seems that Christmas really has come early this winter!
Have a great Christmas and we hope to share some adventures with you in the New Year.
